Harwell-based Rezatec has won the Climate-KIC incubation award at ecoConnect’s Cleantech Innovate 2013, a showcase which brought together 40 of the UK’s most inspiring and innovative green technologies http://cleantechinnovate.com
Rezatec, developer of a unique remote sensing, earth observation platform which provides organisations with global business decision-making information for managing their carbon footprint, was one of nine finalists shortlisted for the award. Rezatec’s first application uses satellite imagery to calculate carbon stock and flux values for forested, agricultural and urban land at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions but with independently-verified accuracy.
Cleantech Innovate is the largest innovation showcase of its kind in the UK with 40 British growth-oriented and venture-ready technology companies presenting live.
Catherine Hokin, co-founder of ecoConnect, the organisers of the event, said “As one of the judging panel, I am delighted to see Rezatec win the Climate KIC award. It was a very competitive field but it was felt that Rezatec’s technology had global impact and is an excellent model for a UK innovation with mass market potential.”
Patrick Newton, CEO of Rezatec, said of the award: “We are very excited to have won the Climate-KIC Incubation award which will allow us to engage with the Climate-KIC network to expedite delivery of our unique carbon information products into the hands of our prospective customers this year.” He continued: “The earth observation market is growing fast and we are well-positioned to provide independently verified valuable business information, firstly to the carbon sector, and then to other sectors moving forward.”
Climate KIC is one of three Knowledge and Innovation Communities designed in 2010 by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. Andrew Burford, Entrepreneurship Lead at Climate-KIC, who presented the award said of the event: “The quality of Entrepreneurial ideas at Cleantech Innovate was very high and we were very delighted to be involved with activities like this that really make a difference”.
Dr Tim Fox, Head of Energy and Environment at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and one of the judges of the Climate KIC award said: “This event is a testament to British ingenuity and it is hugely encouraging that we’ve seen such a healthy variety of green UK innovations.”
